Founded by former Williams & Connolly litigation partner Sam Davidoff, Align began life building digital binders for litigators. Five years on, the bootstrapped legal tech company is expanding into AI-powered legal research, betting that generative AI has reopened a market it once regarded as saturated. We find out more.
I’m a former litigator who now makes software for other litigators. Our original product, Align Binders, gives litigators digital binders on their laptops and iPads. Our new product, Align Research, gives litigators an expert AI-based research agent that finds US case law without hallucinations.
We are software development team focused on the LegalTech space. We build enterprise-grade products for law firms and lawyers. Align Binders is a mobile digital binders solution with online/offline capabilities, on-prem, private cloud, and SaaS deployment models, and full MDM support for mobility. Align Research, our newest product, is an agentic AI-based legal research platform that runs a custom legal research pipeline to retrieve cases.

Litigators – anyone from solo trial lawyers up through AmLaw100 litigation groups.
We want to continue to expand throughout the litigation market. There are a lot of litigators in the world, and they need good tools (of the AI and non-AI variety).
Our first product has been on the market for several years and is in use at several major AmLaw100 firms as well by trial teams of all sizes.
No.
When we started, there was no AI. AI has changed both how we develop software and the kinds of products we are building. Our launch of Align Research reflects our view that there are new product opportunities enabled by AI. Legal research was an area that previously we had thought saturated. With the advent of AI, there are new problems (e.g., hallucinations) and new solutions (like our agentic case finder!)
Lawyers are understandably slow to change their workflows. This means the sales cycle for new legal products that are genuinely new (not substitutes for existing products) can be slow, sometimes painfully slow.
Our core development team has worked together for over five years and has never met in person! We have a lot of plans for what that first meetup is going to be like.
